In Normandy the cultures of remembrance and tourism perfectly melt together.
Each year in early June D-day, the Allied invasion on the European mainland in 1944, is celebrated here in the presence of veterans, tourist and actors in original WWII uniforms paying tribute to the survivors.
It’s an odd display, especially when you think of all the blood and tears that have been shed on the French beaches.
